History of the Manchester United club
Manchester United was formed in 1878 as Newton Heath football club by the carriage and wagon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot (LYR) at Newton Heath.
The team initially played matches against other departments and railway companies, but on November 20, 1880, they competed in their first recorded match.
Dressed in the colors of the railway company - Green and gold - they were defeated 6-0 by the reserve team Bolton Wanderers. By 1888, the club had turned into an establishing individual from the Combination, a local football association.
Following the league's dissolution after just one season, Newton Heath joined the newly formed Football Alliance, which lasted for three seasons before merging with the Football League.
This led to the club starting the 1892-1893 season in the first division, at which time it became independent of the railway company and dropped the "LYR" from its name. Two seasons later, the club was relegated to the second division.

The club logo is derived from the Manchester City Council logo, although all that remains of it on the current logo is the full-sail ship. The devil originates from the nickname of the club "Red Devils".

They were included in the club's programs and scarves in the Sixties and were incorporated into the club logo in 1970, although the logo was not on the shirt box until 1971. in 1975, the Red Devil (" facing the evil Guardian Devil who supports with both hands a trident ") was awarded as a badge by the College of arms of the English Football League for use by Manchester United.
Newton Heath's uniform was documented in 1879, four years before the club played its first competitive match, as "white with a blue rope". It is believed that a photo of the Newton Heath team, taken in 1892, shows the players in red and White Quartered shirts and navy blue trousers.
Between 1894 and 1896, the players wore green and gold shirts which in 1896 were replaced by white shirts worn with navy blue shorts.
After the name change in 1902, the club's colors were changed to red shirts, white pants, and black socks, which became the basic uniform of Manchester United.
Very few changes were made to the shirt until 1922 when the club adopted white shirts with a deep red "V" around the neck, similar to the shirt worn in the 1909 FA Cup final.
They remained part of their core collections until 1927. For a period in 1934, the White and cherry shirt became the club's primary color, but the following season the red shirt was called up after the club's all-time lowest league position as they finished 20th in the second division relegation and the collared shirt to the changeover.
The black socks were changed to White from 1959 to 1965, replacing them with red socks until 1971 with the occasional use of white when the club reverted to black.

Manchester United is one of the most successful clubs in Europe in terms of titles won. the club's first trophy was the Manchester Cup, which they won as Newton Heath LYR in 1886.
Those titles meant that the club appeared a record 30 times in the FA Shield(formerly the FA Charity Shield), which is played at the beginning of each season between the league and FA Cup winners from the previous season; of those thirty matches, Manchester United won a record 21, including four times when the match was drawn and the trophy was shared between the two clubs.
The club experienced a successful period under Matt Busby, starting with the FA Cup in 1948 and culminating in becoming the first English club to win the European Cup in 1968, winning five league titles in the intervening years.
